MKS was born Michael K Skrobin in Oak Lawn Illinois in 1989. He grew up in the Chicago suburb of Palos Heights IL.
From an early age Michael would love to spend his days drawing and painting. Some of Michael's earliest memories in his life was watching Bob Ross on PBS with his Grandmother. He was fascinated by the show and still watches the classic episodes to this day.
Michael continued to pursue his interest in art throughout his years in school. He rarely paid any attention in his classes except for art class, which was often the only class that he got an A.
After barely graduating from Stagg high school in 2007 he went to Moraine Valley CC and began honing his drawing and painting skills. At Moraine Valley Michael was inspired by several amazing teachers who encouraged him to continue pursuing his passion and to never give up, no matter what.
After Moraine Valley Michael continued on to Colombia college Chicago and graduated in 2012. That summer while living downtown Chicago, Michael participated in several street festivals and art competitions including Wicker Park Fest and Retro on Roscoe. In the fall of 2012 he entered in Artprize in Grand Rapids Michigan. Though he didn't win he received encouragement from friends, family and the public to continue pursuing his passion for art.
When not painting Michael loves going to concerts and making music with his friends. Some of his favorite musicians include Paul McCartney, Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards and John Mayer just to name a few.
When he returned to Chicago he began displaying his art all over the city in bars, restaurants, shops and even movie theaters. This eventually resulted in him being contacted by Chicago Bull legend Luol Deng who took a liking to his Bob Marley painting, which was on display in Lincoln Park at the time.
Luol gave Michael a shoutout on instagram which helped establish him as a professional artist. This lead to him making paintings for athletes and celebrities such as Conor Dwyer, Michael Phelps, Anthony Rizzo, Brandon Bollig, Dave Bolland, Chase Kalisz and Zac Efron.
Today MKS is beginning a new chapter in his life and career by working with speed painting legend Elliot From and Art Beat Live. To see what projects MKS is currently working on you can stay up to date by following him @mksart
